DTN COMMENTS:  A light trade is being reported in parts of the South at 
$229, $2 higher than last week's weighted average basis Kansas, and a few 
deals are also noted in Nebraska at $356 to $357, steady to $1 lower than 
last week's weighted average. 

Today's slaughter totaled 123,000 head, 2,000 more than last week, but 
not comparable to last years holiday kill. Live cattle futures closed 
mostly moderately to sharply lower, off 50 to 190, while feeder issues 
ended the day sharply lower, off 107 to 180. Beef cutouts are expected to 
close mixed, with light to moderate box movement.
