   Wheat...West coast cash wheat bids were reflective of the softer tone
across the futures complex in early-week trade. Nearby basis levels were
mostly steady for all three classes of wheat, but hovering at less than 
half the seasonal average for the protein wheat and white wheat showing
a negative basis that is nearly a dollar below average. 
   Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed another relatively good
week for wheat movement off U.S. ports, coming in at 16.8 million bushels
to put the year-to-date total at 209 million, which is 28% behind a year
ago. Hard red spring was the top shipper with 5.3 million, followed by
white wheat with 4.5 million and hard red winter with 3.3 million. West
coast exporters lifted 12 million bushels of wheat that went primarily
to Japan, the Philippines and Thailand, along with 19 million bushels of
corn for South Korea, Japan and Indonesia.
   Crop Progress...Recent precipitation triggered further winter wheat
plantings across the Pacific Northwest last week, with Washington sowing
another 17% of the crop to hit the one-third planted mark. Idaho reports
10% planted and Oregon is on track with the average pace at 9% planted.
